Tomb of Akbar the Great
The third Mughal Emperor Akbar was the one of the greatest emperor in India. Akbar the Great (1542-1605) ruling in India is considered as the best Mughal ruling time. He tried to make one India with his true efforts.
The Akbar's Tomb is a significant architectural at the Sikandra location in Agra. It covers almost 119 acres ground and it is located at National Highway-2, at the entrance of Agra city. This beautiful Tomb was constructed by Akbar himself and tombs construction was started in 1600, according to Tartary during his life time and completed by his son Jahangir in 1605-1613.
Architecture The buildings are constructed mainly with deep red sandstone and white marble increased its beauty in decoration. The building complex is square in plan and aligned on the cardinal axis, with the tomb at its center and four gates, one along each wall. The tomb of Akbar has tall sandstone clad gate with ornate marble inlay carvings and inscriptions. Its inscriptions were written and designed by Abd al- Haqq Shirazi (later known as Amanat Khan), famed calligrapher of Mughal monuments including Taj Mahal. While the inscriptions on the north elevation facing the tomb eulogize the deceased emperor, those above the entrance praise Jehangir, the patron of the tomb.
Timings The entry of the Akbar Tomb starts with sunrise and closing time at sunset.
Entry Fees
Entry fees are different for different country citizens. India and SAARC country visitors' entry fee is Rs. 5 per head + Toll Tax (Agra Development Authority). Others entry fee is Rs. 100/- per head. (Free entry to children up to 15 years).
