Taj Mahal

The story of Taj Mahal was started with the love story of Mughal prince Khurram and Muslim Persian princess Arjumand Banu Begam. She met to Shah Jahan first time at the age of 14 and got married.

Mumtaj Mahal: Arjumand Banu Begum was the daughter of a Persian noble Abdul Hasan Asaf Khan, the brother of Nur Jehan. She had born in 1593 in Agra and got married with Shah Jahan in the age of 19 years. Arjumand Banu Begaum was very beautiful and her husband Shah Jahan called her with Mumtaz Mahal name. In Urdu language Mumtaz Mahal refers to beloved ornament of the palace. She was very religious Muslim women. She dead near Agra at time to deliver her fourteenth child, she was just 39 at that time.

Shah Jahan: Shabuddin Mohammed Shah Jahan was the fifth Mughal Emperor after Babur, Humayun, Akbar, and Jahangir. He was also known as Khurram. He is very famous Mughal emperor because of Taj Mahal and love story with Mumtaz Mahal. Other important buildings of Shah Jahan were the Diwan-i-Am and Diwan-i-Khas in the fort of Delhi, the Jama Masjid, the Moti Masjid in Agra. He was the founder of Shahjahanabad, now known as 'Old Delhi'.

Taj Mahal: After the death of Shah Jahan's beloved wife, he decided to make this world famous monument for his wife and appoint Ustad Ahmed Lahori; the renowned Islamic architect of his time. The much-celebrated saga of royal love was brought to life by dexterous and skilled artisans from places as far away as Delhi, Kannauj, Lahore, Multan, Baghdad, Shiraz and Bukhara. The construction began in year 1631, and more than 20,000 workers with master craftsmen worked laboriously for 22 years to make Shah Jahan's dream true. More than 1000 elephants brought material from all over India and central Asia. This beautiful building was completed in 1653 at cost of 32 Million Rupees.

Prize of Taj Mahal: The master craftsmen didn't know that they would get different kind of prize to make this beautiful building. Their hands were cut by the order of Shah Jahan because he didn't want to repeat this kind of beautiful building in this world.
