Lotus temple is one of the biggest attractions of Delhi. This building attracts a number of tourists mainly because of its high quality structure which has been shaped like a lotus flower. People of all castes and religion are welcomed here to pray and meditate.
Architecture: The magnificent structured has been inspired by the Lotus flower. The chief architect of this temple is an Iranian, Fariborz Sahba, who currently resides in Canada. It took him 10 long years to build this beautiful building. A team of around 800 engineers worked on this building which was inaugurated in December 1986.
Lotus temple is made up of white marble with nine doors. The building is 40 meters in high and is surround by several ponds that covers a total area of around 26 acres. The building has a capacity to hold around 2500 at a time.
Main Contribution: Ardishir Rustampur from Hyderabad made a major contribution in buying the land for the Lotus temple. The temple has been built by the Bahai House of Worship.
Location: It is located in Kalkaji, South of Delhi, just behind the Kalkaji Temple.
How to reach: You can reach lotus temple easily by an auto, bus, metro or by your own vehicle. Being a renowned building cabs and autos are easily available at bus stands, railway stations and airports in Delhi.
Visitors: According to the latest record, around 4 million people visit the Lotus temple every year.
