First-aid

Traveling to a new place is exciting and a fun-filled experience. To make your tour and vacation even better, you should be well equipped with a first-aid kit to be on the safer side. Carry your first aid kit containing all the essential items.

Two things are important to consider before deciding up on the need for a first-aid: where are you going and what are you likely to be doing there.

Every traveler planning to visit a new place should know well ahead about the place in advance. Gather all information about the place you are going to visit. This will give you a fair idea about the first-aid needs that you might require on your travel. It is important that you and those traveling with you know how to use the first aid kit. A good first aid manual can be helpful. For more adventurous travelers, it may be worth completing a basic first aid course before the trip.

Certain groups of travelers need to take special precautionary measures before traveling to places situated far from their dwelling places. These special groups include infants, young children, pregnant women, the elderly, the disabled, and those with a pre-existing health problem. All these travelers should make sure they discuss their travel plan with their concerned doctors who will advise them on the first-aid measures. Be well informed about the available medical services at your desired travel destination.

Things to include in your basic travel first aid kit:
The quantity of every item in your first-aid kit will depend on the number of people who are traveling along with you. The components of your first aid kit can ideally be stored in a suitable container that is waterproof and comes with a secure lid.

Most important First-aid items that must carry along during your travel are the adhesive tape, bandages, nasal decongestant, antiseptic wound cleanser, emollient eye drops, insect repellent, insect bite treatment, oral re-hydration salts, scissors and safety pins, simple analgesic (e.g. paracetamol), sterile dressing, clinical thermometer.

Additional items that can be carried according to destination and individual needs include antifungal powder, sedatives, anti-diarrhea medication, anti-malarial medication, condoms, medication for any pre-existing medical condition, sterile syringes and needles, and water disinfectant.

You can also keep other items in the first aid kit to meet some anticipated needs. However, the decision should be made according to the destination and duration of your vacation tour. Also take sun block creams rated at least 15 SPF if you are visiting high altitudes places with high risk of sunburn.

Some Health Tips:
You can avoid animal bites and serious diseases like rabies and plague. If you have recently been bitten or scratched by some animal, then you should be careful while handling pet animals like dogs and cats. Immediately wash the wound with soap and water. Seek medical attention to find out if anti-rabies vaccine is needed.

Fungal and parasitic infections can been kept away by keeping the feet clean and dry. Also take care not to go barefoot on places where animals may have defecated.
