Travel-health is one of the wisest decisions considered by the travelers. People are always eager to visit a foreign country for leisure purposes. But very few of them are ready to spare some time to decide the preventive measures against the deadly diseases that might exist in the country or the place they are about to visit.
Several medical studies have confirmed the presence of malaria in around ninety countries. See the list of malaria effected countries. Africa is particularly affected by malaria as 95% areas of Africa are malaria stricken. But this should not stop you from visiting this place. With following some preventive measures you can still stay protected from malaria and its deadly bite. The other most effected parts of the world include Colombia, India, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Solomon Islands.
Three most important things to remember while your travel:
• Inform yourself about malaria as much as possible. Know all about the incubation period and the symptoms related to malaria.
• Do NOT forget to take along some anti-malarial drugs with you.
• Try your best to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. Take special care between dusk and dawn.
It is important to know that malaria infection can sometimes take up to a whole year to come up with the first symptom. If not treated, malaria can lead to coma, death, or even kidney failure. Keep looking for symptoms like body aches, fever, sweats, chills, headache, nausea, and exhaustion. The best way to keep malaria at bay is to seek immediate diagnosis at first symptom.
Malaria is caused by the bite of female anopheles mosquito that carries the malaria-causing parasite. This parasite when entered in the blood stream reaches the liver and starts multiplying. After this, the parasites start mixing into the blood stream. This is when they start attacking the red blood cells that finally burst and initiate further attack on intact cells.
Some of the most common symptoms of malaria include fever chills, excessive laziness, muscle aches, and severe headache. However, these symptoms can be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and jaundice-like indications.
Traveling to tropical areas could mean a high risk of malaria. This can be avoided to a large extent by taking some prophylactic drug in your first-aid kit. Although no anti-malarial drug can completely eliminate the infection chances but these drugs can slow down the complications to a considerable level.
