East Delhi Metro launch delayed by a week due to polls
India Times:Residents of east Delhi will have to wait for 10 more days to enjoy the comfort of Metro as the DMRC has decided to postpone the Launch of its service to Yamuna Bank till May 10 due to Lok Sabha elections in the national capital.
The extension of Metro Line 3 and the launch of Metro service from the newly-constructed Yamuna Bank metro station was earlier scheduled for May two.
“But the services could not be launched on May two due to Lok Sabha elections in Delhi which are scheduled on May seven,” a DMRC spokesman said.
Asked if there was any communication from the Election Commission to reschedule the launch, the spokesman said: “No. It was a decision taken by us…. We did not get any communication in this regard from the EC.”
The extension of Metro Line 3 will allow the residents of east Delhi locality to enjoy the comfort of Metro.
“The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be extending the existing Line 3 (Dwarka Sector 9 - Indraprastha) upto Yamuna Bank, a distance of 2.1 kms, from May 10″.
The opening of this station is also likely to reduce the road traffic from the two main bridges namely Nizamuddin Bridge and ITO Bridge connecting East Delhi with the rest of the city as both these bridges are major bottleneck points in terms of traffic, especially during the peak hours.
